Man as giver

U.S. entrepreneur Chuck Feeney, 86, has spent the last several decades giving away billions of dollars. He has done this while doing his best to keep it a secret. In late 2016 he gave away his last seven million. He and wife Helga now live in a rented apartment.

Periodicity

There are periods when we feel connected and alive, and there are other periods when we feel alienated and spent. Nothing wrong with that. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Contentment

Life cannot give me what I need while I chase after what I want. What comes to me unbidden, unanticipated, is the precondition to contentment. Contentment is not an achievement. Not a result.

Purifying the mind

Sometimes I will invite a client to stand at the window of my office and watch the movement of traffic in the street below. We are not interested in where these vehicles have come from or who is driving them. We are just watching. Later on, the client can apply the same divine disinterest to the movement of his thoughts. Thoughts can survive anything except our indifference. Indifference is what purifies the mind.
