Whatever you do, do it with your whole heart. Are you on the drunk-and-dissolute path? Do that with everything you’ve got. Are you committed to awakening? Allow no one to deter, deflect or dissuade you. The key thing is not to hop from one path to another, to mix things up. Disaster that way lies.
Perseverance is a blue-collar charism, a divine bestowal stripped to the waist of the fancies. It’s the willingness of the sealed-off chick to keep on pecking. We’ll put a stethoscope on that racket and discover this: Nothing exceptional was ever accomplished with half a heart.
“One thing I have desired of the Lord; that will I seek after” Psalm 27
You cannot seek after two things and expect to get either one of them. Seeking after two things is a recipe for disaster. Or a life of spectatorship.
Bad thing, good thing—it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that it’s one thing.
Is it a bad thing? Run after it with your whole heart. Sin boldly, as they say, out in the open. Is it a good thing? Same rules.
Just be careful you don’t mix them up. Everyone knows how unstable wet dynamite is.
