Moderation is only possible when I am fundamentally indifferent to my appetites and activities. I can employ self-discipline to fight with myself but where lies the merit and meaning in that unhappy business?
When we enter the deep-sleep state, we relinquish all our worldly attachments. Upon awakening, there’s a feeling of refreshment. This is the “living water” Jesus spoke about during his conversation with the woman at the well. She was attached to five husbands. And she was wide awake.
We have three operational centres: Mind thinks, Heart feels, Body acts. We know this because they change. (We cannot see what does not change.) After waxing and waning, the centres shut down. This does not affect us.
