The movement from innocence to ontic insecurity is fairly swift. By the time a child moves into his fort-building phase, it’s pretty much complete. At that point, personality has hardened, shell-like, around essence.
Huh?
There are roughly 30 trillion cells in the human body. In my case, people call this vast constellation “Keith.” (Talk about ontic obscuration!) So how is this cosmic swirl governed? What holds it together? Gurdjieff used the term “essence.” A hundred years later people speak of consciousness. To watch a scientist’s eyes glaze over, say “consciousness.”
Briefly human
In our essence, we’re limitless, sky-sized, changeless and forever. The body, obviously, is time bound. Since the illimitable cannot be limited, we are in our essence not bodies. We’re spiritual beings temporarily enfleshed.
