My personal staff

My personal staff consists of a mind, heart and body (MHB). Their job is to look after things so I’m free to be who I AM during this little sojourn. Altogether it’s a pretty good arrangement. Special props to B for digesting my food.

There are roughly 30 trillion cells in the human body. In my case, people call this vast constellation “Keith.” (Talk about ontic obscuration!) So how is this cosmic swirl governed? What holds it together? Gurdjieff used the term “essence.” A hundred years later people speak of consciousness. To watch a scientist’s eyes glaze over, say “consciousness.”

I feel bad

The necessities of life include food, clothing, shelter and the means to acquire these things. The list, no matter how long we extend it, does not include negative emotional states. Anger, depression, anxiety and so on—these are not necessary. Gurdjieff’s table-clearing definition of sin: Whatever is not necessary.
