Impatience is an intolerance of what is spurred by a desire for what isn’t. The man who is chronically impatient lives with the talons of “What’s next?” sunk deep into his upper back.
We become chronically impatient without understanding what has taken place, which is that our whole system, top to bottom, has been hijacked by a flooding rage. We can’t see this, but others can. Folks brush off impatience. But impatience is not for brushing off.
Violence draws and holds our attention but it is pike-in-the-weeds impatience that represents anger in its most relentless and corrosive aspect.
As the word suggests, environmental cleanup begins with the mind.
Mind is polluted if it is irritable, impatient, dissatisfied or wet-nursing a grudge.
Funnily enough, some of our worst polluters are fervent recyclers.
