We’re bubbles rising to the surface, to the “big pop,” as bubbles say.
“They” and “them” are increasingly used as gender-neutral pronouns in the singular sense. For example: “Male and female he made them; and blessed them and called their name Adam in the day when they were created.” We’re compelled to say the future looks androgynous.
Good communication is essential. Sometimes words may be necessary.
Does patriarchy work? Of course it does! (It works for men.) But things change, and now “wife”, as a serviceable term, stands on the cusp of retirement.
