The strangest thing
It is the strangest thing, finding a deeper satisfaction in what I refrain from doing than in what I actually do. And restraint is still the most beautiful word in the English language.
Conscientious objectors
Awake, aware, but not thinking. Surely this is not an achievement. We can decline to think. We can say, ‘No, I refuse to think.’ This is meditation. Or, in two words, simple sanity.
