The good king doesn’t do much, and what he does do, he does quietly. It seems to his subjects that while nothing is done, nothing remains undone.

Sane man discovered!

Sane is the man who does not think when there is no necessity for thought. Sanity has never been found at the top of the news order. Some say it’s rare as rubies.

The strangest thing

It is the strangest thing, finding a deeper satisfaction in what I refrain from doing than in what I actually do. And restraint is still the most beautiful word in the English language.

Conscientious objectors

Awake, aware, but not thinking. Surely this is not an achievement. We can decline to think. We can say, ‘No, I refuse to think.’ This is meditation. Or, in two words, simple sanity.
