The greatest power of them all, by a margin so vast it cannot be measured? Innocence. Yes, it’s despoiled everywhere. But still, by virtue of divine fiat, it is everywhere.
Beliefs are not benign; they demand enactment. The most pernicious beliefs are the unconscious ones, the beliefs we don’t know we have. A belief in one’s weakness, for example, which can imprison a man in compensatory behaviours.
True self doesn’t coerce, insist, negotiate or try. Also, it doesn’t speak overmuch.
