Contentment
Life cannot give me what I need while I chase after what I want. What comes to me unbidden, unanticipated, is the precondition to contentment. Contentment is not an achievement. Not a result.
Quietly delighted
A man I know tells me that he has resigned from the results committee. This is a recommended action. The Gita puts it plainly: “Take no thought for the fruits of your actions.”
Best practice
The meaning of work lies not in some hoped-for result or reward but in the work itself.
Work has no purpose. It’s not for me or for you or for anything. It’s for itself.
