Where am I headed if I’m excellent with money but lousy with myself? Profiteering, almost certainly. Pornography, possibly. Do-gooding, maybe.

I can only know you to the extent that I know myself. Intimacy is rooted in self-knowledge. If I haven’t plumbed my depths, I’ll stay stuck at the level of form and flesh.

On stupidity

Stupidity is not necessarily a lack of intelligence. Some of the stupidest men in the world are savvy, rich, well educated. Stupid is the man who does not know himself, who does the right thing for the wrong reasons.
