Here’s a question I never thought I’d ask: What is the spiritual significance of the Old Testament detail that Noah built the ark in his own backyard? Well, two things. First, if you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, you’ll need no help doing it. To underline that point, Noah was 500 years old when he set to work. On top of that, the entire neighbourhood thought he was nuts. Second, if you’re all about saving the world, you don’t need to go anywhere. Bloom where you’re planted.
We don’t actually die. What happens is, we serve the common good; we create a space for others. Ancestor worship, while pleasing to our ancestors, is a bit misplaced.
